H.R. No. 913


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of the Reverend Carroll Thomas Cole, Sr., of New Braunfels on March 26, 2003, at the age of 79, has deeply saddened the family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and WHEREAS, A native of Louisiana, he was born on April 4, 1923, in Arcadia, and lived in Texas during much of his life; he graduated from Woodville High School, where he was a cheerleader, and also lived in San Marcos and Austin before moving to New Braunfels in 1991; and WHEREAS, Reverend Cole was an alumnus of East Texas Baptist College, Texas Baptist Theological Seminary, and Lundig School of Mortuary Science; he was called to pastor Southern Baptist churches throughout Texas over the course of a fine 18-year career in the ministry and also devoted 26 years to the Gary Job Corps in San Marcos in the capacity of law enforcement liaison and counselor; and WHEREAS, Answering his country's call to arms during World War II, he served as a staff sergeant at Schofield Barracks at Pearl Harbor, and received the Bronze Star for his dedication; and WHEREAS, Over the course of 58 years of marriage, Reverend Cole and his wife, Kathryn, enjoyed a close and fulfilling marriage that was blessed with four children, and "Papa" took great joy in welcoming nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to his close-knit family; and WHEREAS, Carroll Thomas Cole, Sr., was a faithful pastor and veteran who served his nation well; he loved to travel and visit historic sites, and he will long be remembered for his compassion, devotion, and gentle spirit; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Reverend Carroll Thomas Cole, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Kathryn; to his daughter, Deborah Kay Cole; to his sons and their wives, Carroll Thomas Cole, Jr., and Fran, Mark Randall and Lana Cole, and Kyle Lynn and Susan Cole; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to his sister, Jimmie Goolsbee; to his sister-in-law, Aline Cole; and to all those who mourn the passing of this beloved man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the Reverend Carroll Thomas Cole, Sr. Hochberg ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
