R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Texarkana have lost a beloved neighbor, friend, and educator with the passing of Don Rader on April 15, 2003, at the age of 55; and WHEREAS, A native of Arkansas, Mr. Rader was born in Hot Springs on December 12, 1947; after graduating from high school, he attended East Texas State University in Commerce; and WHEREAS, Superintendent for the Liberty-Eylau Independent School District (ISD) since 1998, this esteemed teacher and administrator has been involved with the district for more than three decades, and his dedication to his students won widespread respect and appreciation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rader began his career with the district in 1969 as a government and civics teacher; he was the sponsor of the student council, cheerleaders, and Key Club and was chosen teacher of the year during the 1970s; a natural leader, he served as community education director, principal at the kindergarten and high school, and then assistant superintendent before assuming his most recent post; and WHEREAS, In recognition of his contributions to his community, the Don Rader scholarship fund was established in his memory by his friends and colleagues at Liberty-Eylau ISD; and WHEREAS, Don Rader was a good man who fought for what he believed in; he had a rapport with the students that helped him make a difference in the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Don Rader and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Gail Rader; to his daughter, Marcy Rader; to his stepmother, Frances Vaught; to his sister, Gail Ross; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don Rader.
