R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at the loss of Specialist Jamaal R. Addison of Roswell, Georgia, who died in the Iraqi campaign on March 23, 2003, at the age of 22; and WHEREAS, Specialist Addison, a microwave systems operator maintainer, was one of nine soldiers from the army's 507th Maintenance Company who lost their lives in an ambush in southern Iraq; and WHEREAS, This courageous soldier graduated in 1998 from Lakeside High School, where he excelled at his studies and was a member of the ROTC; after a semester at DeKalb Technical College and several jobs, he joined the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Benning; he received training in communications and spent a year in Korea before being posted to Fort Bliss, from which he was deployed to the Persian Gulf in February 2003; and WHEREAS, Noted for his seriousness of purpose and ability to get things done, Specialist Addison planned to start his own business after his discharge from the military; his ability to set goals, together with his compassionate and caring nature, also marked him out as a likely community leader; and WHEREAS, Americans owe an immeasurable debt to their military personnel, whose brave and unfaltering efforts have long secured this nation's treasured freedom; through his unwavering devotion to duty, honor, and his country, Specialist Addison embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and the State of Texas and the nation now mourn the loss of a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in his country's behalf, and whose life was a blessing to all who were privileged to share his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Specialist Jamaal R. Addison and that it extend deep sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Tek'la Addison; to his son, Jamaal, and his daughter, Christian; to his mother, Patricia Webb; to his father, Kevin Addison; to his sisters, Celisse and Chanel Addison; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Specialist Jamaal R.
