R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The year 2003 marks the 30th anniversary of the
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso, and this
milestone provides a fitting opportunity to honor one of the
individuals who has helped to make this facility the renowned
institution it is today; and
WHEREAS, Currently the president of SBC Southwestern Bell and
SBC SNET, John T. Montford is a former chancellor of the Texas Tech
University System who is credited with recommending that the board
of regents establish a full four-year medical school in El Paso; his
other achievements include 14 years as a member of the Texas Senate,
where he served as chairman of the Finance Committee, chairman of
the State Affairs Committee, and president pro tem during the 73rd
Legislative Session; and
WHEREAS, Through his exemplary contributions to the Texas
Tech University Health Sciences Center, John Montford has helped to
establish Texas Tech El Paso as a valuable resource for health care
education and delivery for the citizens of West Texas, and his
unwavering devotion to the well-being of his fellow Texans will not
soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend John T. Montford, whose outstanding
service in behalf of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences
Center has ensured a brighter future for countless people; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Montford as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
