R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Jarvis Christian College Concert Choir visited
New York City March 5-9, 2003, entertaining thousands of music
lovers during its memorable stay in the Big Apple; and
WHEREAS, Under the brilliant guidance of director Jessie
Biles and associate director Dr. Gerald Bieritz, the Jarvis
Christian College Concert Choir has earned enthusiastic applause
from audiences across the United States; widely known for their
classical and Negro spirituals, these outstanding singers have
performed at the Montgomery Bus Boycott Anniversary Gala and the
Frederick D. Patterson Awards Banquet in Beverly Hills, California,
and their audiences have included such notables as Clifton Davis,
Julian Bond, Miss America Debbye Turner, and Melba Moore; and
WHEREAS, During the trip to New York, the Jarvis Christian
College Concert Choir performed at Brooklyn's St. Philip's
Christian Church, where Jarvis graduate Dr. Magadalen Shelton
serves as minister; and
WHEREAS, Representing the Lone Star State in fine fashion,
the talented individuals of the Jarvis Christian College Concert
Choir demonstrated what dedication and hard work can accomplish as
they earned the respect and admiration of their New York audiences;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Jarvis Christian College Concert Choir
on its recent New York performances and extend to its members and
directors warmest best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Jarvis Christian College Concert Choir as an
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
