H.R. No. 934


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In July 2002, Robert Aguilar of El Paso was named assistant principal of Glen Cove Elementary School, a significant step in this remarkable gentleman's decade-long quest to become principal of Glen Cove; and WHEREAS, Mr. Aguilar was hired as a school janitor in 1992 and he set a goal of becoming principal of the school; after sharing his dream with his colleagues, he received a great deal of encouragement and, in 1993, at the age of 27, he enrolled in his first class at El Paso Community College; and WHEREAS, In 1998, Mr. Aguilar received a bachelor's degree in special education from The University of Texas at El Paso, and in the ensuing years he was employed as a teacher at Glen Cove Elementary School and Parkview Alternative Middle School and as a special education teacher at Desert Aire Elementary; and WHEREAS, A role model for students and teachers alike, he continued his pursuit of higher education and earned a master's degree in administration from Sul Ross State University in 2002 and accepted the position of assistant principal at Glen Cove shortly thereafter; and WHEREAS, Mr. Aguilar's success story is indeed an inspiration and it is a pleasure to pay tribute to him and recognize his faith and commitment in the pursuit of excellence; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Mr. Aguilar on being named assistant principal of Glen Cove Elementary School and commend him for his dedication to achieving his goals and for his continued support of El Paso's children; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Aguilar as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
