R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of James G. Kmiecik of Houston were deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed gentleman on April 2, 2003, at the age of 78; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kmiecik was born on March 30, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Houston when he was six months old; he graduated with the John H. Reagan High School Class of 1942 and attended Rice University on a naval ROTC scholarship; in June 1945 he received a degree in mechanical engineering and was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy; and WHEREAS, During the final months of World War II, Mr. Kmiecik served valiantly in the Pacific theater on board the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga; he returned to Houston after the war and in 1956 earned a bachelor of laws degree from South Texas College of Law; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kmiecik was married for more than 52 years to the love of his life, Ada Katheryn McTernan, and their union was filled with many happy times and cherished family memories; and WHEREAS, Though Mr. Kmiecik is profoundly missed, his spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James G. Kmiecik and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Ada Kmiecik; to his children, Gary, Kathi, Randy, and Nancy; to his sons-in-law, Van Salley and Curtis Morgan; to his daughter-in-law, Cathline Kmiecik; to his grandchildren, Kelsey, John, and Cathrine Kmiecik, James Morgan, and Edlow Collins; to his great-grandson, Riley; to his aunt, Gola Slott; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James G.
