H.R. No. 962
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Dallas community lost a beloved friend with the
passing of Gerald H. "Jerry" Goldwyn on February 18, 2003, at the
age of 64; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Goldwyn was born on September 15, 1938, in
Staten Island, N.Y.; he attended New York University and later
served in the United States Army until 1960; and
WHEREAS, A second-generation jeweler, Mr. Goldwyn began his
noted career at Marchal Jewelers of Fifth Avenue in New York, where
he rose to the position of president; in 1976, the vagaries of fate
led Mr. Goldwyn to Eiseman Jewels of Dallas, and his distinguished
service enabled him to become chief executive officer; and
WHEREAS, This beloved gentleman was respected nationally and
internationally for his business acumen and warm, friendly
disposition; honored by the Couture Jewellery Collection &
Conference, an organization of fine jewelry artisans and retailers,
Mr. Goldwyn received the group's Human Spirit award, which was
later renamed the Gerald H. Goldwyn Lifetime Achievement Award in
his honor; and
WHEREAS, Needing another outlet for his creative passion, Mr.
Goldwyn became serious about what had been his photography hobby in
the mid-1990s and found inspiration in his love of the desert
Southwest, a prominent theme in his photographs; and
WHEREAS, The beauty of nature shown by Mr. Goldwyn's
photography skills was recognized and displayed by national
publications, including National Geographic, Traveler, and Gourmet
magazines; his artistic accomplishment captured through the camera
lens was celebrated by an exhibit of photographs featuring all
aspects of nature at the Dallas Museum of Natural History; and
WHEREAS, While North Texas has lost a multitalented and
kindhearted man, Mr. Goldwyn's memory and his record of
accomplishment will live in perpetuity like the lasting
photographic impression of a radiant gemstone; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the life of Gerald H. "Jerry" Goldwyn and
extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his wife, Zelda; to his
daughter Ellen and son-in-law Jaime Zarate; to his son David and
daughter-in-law Sarah Goldwyn; to his grandchildren, Michael,
Allison, and Veda; to his brother, Robert; and to his other
relatives and many beloved friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mr.
Goldwyn.
