H.R. No. 970


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family, friends, and fans of Houston rapper Curtis Donnell "Big Mello" Davis were deeply saddened by his untimely passing on June 15, 2002; and WHEREAS, Born on August 7, 1968, in Houston, Mr. Davis graduated from Madison High School and attended Texas Southern University; studying music and broadcasting, he worked as a disc jockey on the campus radio station, KTSU-FM, and appeared regularly on the station's Kidz Jamm program; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Mr. Davis performed internationally and with nationally known groups; he released his first album in 1992 and followed it with others in 1995 and 1996; at the time of his death, his fourth album, Done Deal, was scheduled for release; and WHEREAS, In addition to being a popular rap artist, Mr. Davis was a devoted husband to wife, Tammie, and a proud father of their two sons, Andrew and Chad; a caring and involved parent, he volunteered his time to help his sons' football team; Mr. Davis was a longtime member of New Faith Church and recently joined the fellowship of New Light Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Though Big Mello is deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the words of the songs he has left behind; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Curtis Donnell "Big Mello" Davis and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Tammie Davis; to his sons, Andrew and Chad Davis; to his parents, Wilbert and Mary Elizabeth Davis; to his sister, Tammy Davis; to his brother, Bruce Allen; to his god brother, Rodney McKinney; to his god sister, Ebony Stewart; to his mother-in-law, Irma Bingham-Wilson; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Curtis Donnell Davis.
