H.R. No. 984
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A native Texas persimmon tree has been planted in
honor of horticulturist Morris Clint, Jr., by Brownsville for his
half-century of commitment to the city; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Clint, 74, owner of Palm Gardens Nursery, was
recognized for his longtime civic involvement as a highly regarded
business leader and volunteer; in turn, the gentleman being lauded
paid tribute to the late Robert Runyon, a self-taught botanist and
former Brownsville mayor, for his planting of myriad Sabal palms
and Montezuma cypress trees that continue to benefit the area's
landscape today; and
WHEREAS, The ceremony honoring Mr. Clint was part of Arbor
Day festivities held at the Brownsville Events Center, the first
such state-sponsored celebration marking this singular occasion in
the city's history; and
WHEREAS, Acclaimed a Tree City USA for the fourth consecutive
year at an Arbor Day ceremony, Brownsville is one of just 47 cities
throughout the Lone Star State to have earned that designation and
Mr. Clint's work has contributed greatly to the enthusiasm of
Brownsville residents for Arbor Day activities; and
WHEREAS, For half a century, Morris Clint, Jr., has worked
for the betterment of his community, and his dedication serves as an
inspiration to all those who know him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Morris Clint, Jr., for his deep
commitment to the citizens and environment of Brownsville and
extend to him heartfelt best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Clint as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
