H.R. No. 1039R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH) is hosting its fourth annual gala on June 7, 2003; and WHEREAS, This celebration provides IACCGH officers and members with a special opportunity to reflect on the group's myriad accomplishments since 1999, when this fine organization was founded to forge new economic links between the Lone Star State and the Republic of India; the importance of such ties for the people of Texas is underscored by a United Nations forecast that India will overtake China as the world's most populous nation by the year 2050; and WHEREAS, The IACCGH helps to foster new business opportunities and joint ventures by providing information, creating networking opportunities, and offering training seminars and mentoring programs; its strong commitment to education has led to the sponsorship of internships and the creation of a new joint master's degree that involves course work at both St. Stephen's College in Delhi and the University of Houston; moreover, the chamber has initiated and is raising funds for a truly remarkable mission, that of forming a partnership among the health care professionals of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, and several other institutions in India for the purpose of advancing the treatment and prevention of cancer; and WHEREAS, Through its business clinics, sponsored events, nonprofit alliances, and networking opportunities, the IACCGH has in only four short years established itself as a significant force within the Texas business community, and the foresight and generosity of its members are to be greatly commended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the efforts of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston and extend to its officers and members warmest best wishes for continued success in their future endeavors.
