H.R. No. 1042


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Colonel Homer W. Lear of San Antonio has devoted more than 25 years to serving his country and protecting his fellow Americans, and he is most deserving of recognition for his longtime service; and WHEREAS, Born in Oak Hill, Kansas, on August 12, 1920, Colonel Lear was accepted into the aviation cadet program after attending two years of college; he received his commission and pilot rating at Kelly Field on August 15, 1941; and WHEREAS, Colonel Lear's two years in training command and his additional time spent in the B-17 and B-29 aircraft qualified him as an aircraft commander in the 19th Bomb Group on Guam; at the conclusion of World War II, he embarked on a career in which he alternated between the strategic air command and service at the Pentagon; and WHEREAS, Among his more memorable experiences was the opportunity to serve as personal escort to Charles Lindbergh during the legendary aviator's visit to strategic air command bases; Colonel Lear is also proud of his role in activating the first "boom" type air-to-air refueling unit while stationed at Biggs Air Force Base in 1949; and WHEREAS, Colonel Lear's service in the military earned him numerous awards, including the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Legion of Merit, as well as exceptional experience on which to draw for his second career; after retiring from the air force in 1968, he held executive positions with the Weyerhaeuser Company and the International Executive Service Corps; and WHEREAS, Today, Colonel Lear enjoys spending time with his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Mary Jane; together they have been blessed with two children, Steve and Rebecca, and five grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Homer W. Lear is a patriotic American whose dedicated and exemplary service to this country will long be remembered; his courage and integrity make him a true role model for Texans, and he is indeed deserving of high praise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to Homer W. Lear for his service to the citizens of the United States and extend to him best wishes for happiness and continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Colonel Lear as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
