R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A sudden illness took Alpine resident David Dale Alloway on March 11, 2003, away from the family and friends he held dear and the towering Davis Mountains and starkly rich landscapes of the Chihuahuan Desert he loved; and WHEREAS, Mr. Alloway worked as a cowboy, naturalist, and guide; the skills gained in these pursuits and his refusal to be bested by climactic and geographic extremes or hostile predators led Outside Magazine to dub Mr. Alloway as "the nation's leading desert survival instructor"; and WHEREAS, The skill and expertise of Mr. Alloway's survival abilities were demonstrated to the world; he was the first non-Australian to complete "the Walk," a 200-kilometer survival trek through the Pilbara Desert of Western Australia; and WHEREAS, Sharing his knowledge with a passion for living and a keen sense of humor, Mr. Alloway was featured in numerous film documentaries, TV shows, and magazine and newspaper articles; he was also a published author with many magazine articles and one book, Desert Survival Skills, to his credit; and WHEREAS, The owner and operator of David Alloway's Skills of Survival school, he bestowed the gift of hope through his vital training on clients that included the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, the National Guard, the U.S. Customs Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, Outward Bound instructors, the National Park Service, Mexican and Australian park rangers, and the 10th Canadian to reach the summit of Mount Everest; and WHEREAS, Those who grieve for this eternal cowboy hope that his journey beyond this realm leads to abundant water, open ranges, and starry skies; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of David Dale Alloway and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his two beloved sons, Ian and Sean; to his father, Dale Alloway; to his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and April Alloway and Stephen and Gloria Alloway; and to the many people whose lives he touched; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David Dale Alloway.
