R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, One of this chamber's distinguished freshmen is
celebrating a birthday today, and it gives his colleagues great
pleasure to recognize the Honorable John Mabry, Jr., at this time;
and
WHEREAS, Now that he has reached the ripe old age of 34,
Representative Mabry may finally be beyond his days of youthful
underachievement; indeed, his fellow house members applaud this
promising young man's decision to finally put his nose to the
grindstone and actually try to make something of himself; and
WHEREAS, A 1992 graduate of Baylor University,
Representative Mabry earned a law degree from Baylor Law School in
1995 and is currently employed in private practice in Waco; while he
has excelled in civil litigation, family law, and criminal defense,
he can often be found waxing nostalgic about his true loves:
hunting, fishing, and Baylor baseball; and
WHEREAS, Though Representative Mabry is new to public office,
he has nonetheless already demonstrated some regard for his fellow
citizens; he has served on the board of the Baylor Waco Foundation,
a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing beneficial
partnerships between individuals and businesses to enhance life in
Central Texas, and he was a member of the sponsorship committee for
the 2002 Cattle Baron's Ball, the largest fund-raising event for
the Waco Chapter of the American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, Representative Mabry is a member of the State Bar of
Texas, the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association, and the
Waco-McLennan County Young Lawyers Association; he is a 32nd Degree
Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Baylor Lodge No. 1235, Ducks
Unlimited, and the National Rifle Association; and
WHEREAS, Despite being a freshman legislator, Representative
Mabry has ably served the constituents of House District 56 during
the 78th Legislative Session, and as this dedicated public servant
slides safely into his mid-thirties, it is readily apparent that
great things can be expected from him in the years to come; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the Honorable John Mabry, Jr., as
he celebrates his 34th birthday and commend him for his efforts
during his first legislative session; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Representative Mabry as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
