R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lela Chism Eaves of Tyler is retiring after an exceptional 50-year career as a teacher, and her retirement provides a fitting opportunity to honor her for her many achievements; and WHEREAS, This outstanding educator graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1955 and went on to earn a master's degree from Texas Woman's University three years later; Mrs. Eaves later continued her studies at The University of Texas at Tyler and Lamar University in Beaumont; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Eaves began her career as an educator in 1953 as a fifth grade teacher in Port Bolivar Independent School District; over the ensuing years, she worked in the Gainesville, Denton, Odessa, and Tyler ISDs, assuming her position as a teacher and educational diagnostician in Lindale ISD in 1988; and WHEREAS, Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Eaves has been an active member of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Ector County chapter of the Counsel of Exceptional Children, and the East Texas Diagnosticians Association; she also was selected to help write a curriculum guide for minimally brain injured children at Lamar Technical University in 1965 and took part in the 1967 Governor's Council on Learning Disabilities; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan's devotion to her career is surpassed only by her love of family; Mrs. Eaves married James "Jim" Eaves on July 14, 1954, and their family has grown to include their daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Nan and Travis Bailey and Colleen and Jim Ruppert, their son, James Maco Eaves, and their grandchildren, Ginger, Genie, and Tara Talkington; and WHEREAS, Lela Chism Eaves has demonstrated a deep commitment to building a brighter and more promising future for Texas by educating our state's future leaders, and it is a pleasure to join her colleagues, family, and friends in honoring her notable career; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Lela Chism Eaves on the occasion of her retirement from Lindale Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes as she embarks on this next chapter of her life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Eaves as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
