R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ruby Lee Sandars has been named 2002 Citizen of the
Year by the Pearland Chamber of Commerce for her many notable
contributions to the betterment of her community; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Pearland for 40 years, Mrs. Sandars
takes an active role in community life as a member of the Pearland
Rotary Club and the Pearland/Hobby Area Chamber of Commerce, which
she assists as an ambassadors committee member; she has helped with
the work of the local PTA and, for nine years, shared her time as a
trustee of the Pearland Independent School District; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Sandars has been instrumental in the
establishment of a YMCA in the Pearland community, which is
considering additional facilities on the city's west side; as
president of the board of volunteers, her leadership has helped
guide the nonprofit during two expansions and through significant
membership growth; and
WHEREAS, At First United Methodist Church of Pearland, this
faithful congregant has volunteered as a Sunday school teacher,
church secretary, Christian education director, adult Bible
teacher, children's church teacher, and senior high youth director;
moreover, she was a 10-year member of the mission team, which built
churches throughout Texas and Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, Ruby Lee Sandars has long committed her time and
talents to making the community an outstanding place in which to
live, work, and raise a family, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor
her at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Ruby Lee Sandars on her selection
as 2002 Citizen of the Year by the Pearland Chamber of Commerce and
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Sandars as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
