R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Through dedication and hard work, Pershing Middle School students have demonstrated impressive skill as musicians; and WHEREAS, On March 1, 2003, members of the Pershing Middle School orchestra and guitar classes participated in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Solo/Ensemble Contest at York Junior High School in Conroe; of the 46 students competing, a striking 34 players received the first place superior rating for their solo or ensemble performances; and WHEREAS, In the advanced class, the following students earned first place gold medals: J. J. Adamson on violin, Larry Jiang on violin, Hongyou Xiong on violin, Ning Zhu on violin, Leslie Galeas on cello, Jourdan Simmons on cello, and James Doan on piano; and WHEREAS, In the intermediate level, the following students received first place silver medals: Rebecca Barnett on violin, Gregory Brusola on violin, Krista Chan on violin, James Doan on violin, Patrick Lu on violin, BeiBei Pan on violin, Mingyang Zhu on violin, Alan Rask on violin, Neha Casturi on viola, Omeed Manshouri on viola, Peter Broz on cello, and Aaron Perchonok on cello; and WHEREAS, In the beginners level, the following students were awarded first place bronze medals: Sofie Medina on violin, Kimberly Freeman on violin, Pei Wang on violin, Saron Fessahaye on violin, Brittney Reese on violin, Mitchell Crimi on violin, Cassie Fiddes on cello, Jennifer McAllister on cello, Alex Wei on guitar, Amy Roberts on harp, Michael Pavlick on piano, and J. J. Adamson, Terry Huang, and Larry Jiang for a violin trio; and WHEREAS, At the UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest at Klein Collins High School on April 25, 2003, Pershing Middle School students again shone brightly, as the school's advanced orchestra received a "Sweepstakes" rating, the highest rating possible; and WHEREAS, Under the leadership of director Margaret Mullin, these remarkable young musicians have achieved an admirable level of success; they are a source of tremendous pride to their school, their families, and their community, and each of them truly deserves special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Pershing Middle School orchestra and guitar classes and extend to them warmest best wishes for success and happiness in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Pershing Middle School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
