No. 1092R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Students from the gifted and talented program of Pershing Middle School in Houston are visiting the State Capitol on May 8, 2003, and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome them to Austin; and WHEREAS, Pershing Middle School has garnered numerous accolades, repeatedly earning the title of Houston ISD Recognized School since 1996, being named a Five Star School in Texas Monthly magazine, and twice winning the Texas Education Agency Successful School Award; this fine institution draws students from across the city through its Fine Arts/Performing Arts and Pre-Advanced Placement/Gifted and Talented Magnet Program, lending to a highly diverse student population; and WHEREAS, During their Texas history field trip, students are broadening their knowledge of the Lone Star State's storied history and government by taking tours of the Capitol Complex, the Bob Bullock Museum, and the State Cemetery; in attendance today are: James Adamson, Sarah Alger, Xun Ao, Julie Arndt, Nura Asi, Shannon Baldwin, Becca Barnes, Steven Baxley, Derek Beck, Audrey Blake, Polly Bobal, Katie Cage, Kendall Carew, Daniel Coorsh, Grayson Creely, Sarah Elkin, Scott Erzinger, Steve Erzinger, Henry Farley, Ben Gatliff, Nicole Harter, Sean Hickman, Elliot Hurley, Emma Jones, Olivia Koshy, Natalye Lahart, Celia Litovsky, Tess Livingston, Diego Lopez, Timmy Maher, Mattie Marion, Will McCaleb, Jackson Murrey-Ittmann, Jasmine Patel, Eleanor Pollo, Philip Reynolds, Claire Robinson, Julie Rogers, Gabriella Ruiz, Tempest Smith, Patrick Squire, John Sudduth, Chloe Tucker, Jonathan Uzick, Mariel Wilhelm, and Alexander Wu; and WHEREAS, The future of the Lone Star State rests firmly on the shoulders of young Texans, including those here today, who can master and apply the lessons of history, relying on the signposts of the past to accurately chart the path ahead; the students of Pershing Middle School are to be heartily commended for their scholastic efforts in this regard, as are the educators, administrators, and parents who have made these efforts possible; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby welcome the gifted and talented students of Pershing Middle School and extend to them warmest best wishes for an enjoyable and informative visit to Austin.
