H.R. No. 1103


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 90th birthday is truly cause for a joyous celebration, and on May 3, 2003, Ruby Page of Houston marked this significant milestone among her family and friends at First Baptist Church of Spring Branch; and WHEREAS, An East Texas native, Mrs. Page was born on May 2, 1913, in Crete, the oldest of 10 children, and today she enjoys the company of her seven surviving siblings; and WHEREAS, She graduated from high school in Groveton in 1931 and attended Mary Hardin College for her initial year of higher education; she enrolled at Sam Houston State University, where she received a bachelor's degree by alternating one year of attending college with one year of teaching school to earn money for her next year as a student; she taught until her retirement in 1976; and WHEREAS, Her leisure pursuits since retiring have included several years of art lessons and painting; in 1998, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame at her Groveton alma mater; and WHEREAS, With her late husband, Perry, Mrs. Page was an active congregant of First Baptist Church of Spring Branch and the couple were instrumental in the construction of the church's current building on Long Point at Campbell Road; today, this delightful lady continues to live in her own home, where she takes great pleasure in her neighbors and community activities including the civic breakfast for women sponsored by the Spring Branch Oaks subdivision; and WHEREAS, The birthday of Ruby Page provided an opportune time for her loved ones to share with her a small bit of the joy that she imparts to others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ruby Page on the notable occasion of her 90th birthday and extend to her warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Page as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
