H.R. No. 1105


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Chief Master Sergeant Stephen Dean Vollbrecht, United States Air Force (Ret.), on March 1, 2002, at the age of 50, has brought a profoundly felt loss to his many friends and relatives; and WHEREAS, Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Sergeant Vollbrecht was educated at Southwest Texas State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary management, and Webster University, where he completed his master's degree in management; a distinguished graduate of the NCO Academy and the NCO Leadership School, he also held specialized military associate's degrees in both personnel administration and emergency medical technology; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Vollbrecht embarked on his notable 29-year career in the United States Air Force in 1971; he completed tours of duty in Alaska, Hawaii, Michigan, and Texas, as well as in Germany, Cuba, the Marshall Islands, and the Netherlands, earning the respect and admiration of officers and enlisted corps alike; and WHEREAS, In recognition for his exemplary work in providing medical and operational leadership for the United States armed forces, Sergeant Vollbrecht was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal and was twice honored with the Humanitarian Service Medal; over the course of his distinguished career he was named First Sergeant of the Year by the Aerospace Medical Division, as well as by both Wilford Hall and Randolph Air Force Base; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know this fine officer will not quickly forget the honesty, fairness, and integrity he brought to every facet of his life, and although his presence is gone from us now, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched during his years on this earth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Chief Master Sergeant Stephen D. Vollbrecht and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Doreen Culbertson Vollbrecht; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Lori Vollbrecht and David and Kristin Vollbrecht; to his grandsons, Evan and Connor Vollbrecht; to his granddaughter, Maia Vollbrecht; to his father, Herbert Vollbrecht; to his brother, Frank Vollbrecht; and to his sister, Sharon Olson; to his greatest friend and colleague, Milton Robert Fields III; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chief Master Sergeant Stephen Dean Vollbrecht.
