R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The students involved with Project Bridge have
dedicated much time and energy to commendable creative pursuits and
their efforts are truly worthy of special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Project Bridge provides art enrichment for
teenagers who have violated the law; this beneficial program is
offered at the Gardner Betts Juvenile Justice Center and at the W.
Jeanne Meurer Juvenile Justice Center's Leadership Academy; and
WHEREAS, The project began in 1996, when the Texas Commission
on the Arts gave a grant of $10,000 to initiate an art class within
the Gardner Betts center; Project Bridge later came to be sponsored
by the Real Estate Council of Austin, which developed the idea to
hold an annual auction of student artwork to raise money for the
project and to provide an opportunity for the young artists to see
that their work is marketable; and
WHEREAS, Art is a constructive outlet for emotional conflict,
a positive strategy for anger management, and a means to foster
self-awareness; many Texans in the juvenile justice system have
benefited immensely from Project Bridge, and students who
participate in this worthwhile program are indeed deserving of
special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the students involved in Project Bridge
and extend to them sincere best wishes for a bright and successful
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the participants as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
