R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A golden wedding anniversary is truly cause for a celebration, and on May 2, 2003, Preston and Colleen Geren of Fort Worth marked this joyous occasion in their lives; and WHEREAS, The couple's first date, attending a football game, was arranged by their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Amon Carter; the Gerens exchanged wedding vows on May 2, 1953, and over the course of their close and enduring union, they have demonstrated a mutual love, respect, and admiration that serves as an inspiration to their close-knit circle of loved ones; and WHEREAS, The couple take great pride in their five children, Beauford, Eva, Chandra, Charlie, and Pete, and their joy in their family has been compounded as they have welcomed 11 grandchildren through the years; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Geren's civic involvement has included participation in the work and activities of the Junior League of Fort Worth and serving on the board of the All Church Home and as a parade committee member for the Fort Worth Livestock Show; and WHEREAS, A veteran of World War II, Mr. Geren fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Silver Star; today, he is retired from a notable career as an architect and engineer; and WHEREAS, Treasured by their family, friends, and community, which they have faithfully served in many ways, Mr. and Mrs. Geren have shared life's trials and triumphs for half a century, and it is indeed appropriate that they be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Preston and Colleen Geren on the memorable occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Geren as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
