R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Willie James Reed, Sr., of Austin on
April 14, 2003, has brought a tremendous sense of loss to the
family, friends, and coworkers of this esteemed gentleman; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Reed was born in Pflugerville on
July 6, 1939, and he was educated in the public schools of Austin;
he professed his religious faith at an early age and attended
College Heights Church until 1991, when he became a member of Mt.
Zion Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Mr. Reed was employed
at St. David's Hospital, the Texas Department of Health, and H-E-B,
and in each place he won the respect and admiration of those with
whom he worked for his commitment and strong work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Willie Reed was a gentle, kind, and giving person,
and while he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the
hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Willie James Reed,
Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones, including
Vyrene Reed, Cynthia Reed Easley, Willie James Reed, Jr., Danny
Earl Reed, Kenneth Ray Wright, Leon Reed, Freddie Reed, Ray Reed,
Cecil Reed, Walter Reed, Raymond Reed, Margie Bonner, Ella Reed
Collins, his 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and his
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Willie
James Reed, Sr.
