R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Calvin Christopher "Chief" Morris of
Houston on March 8, 2002, at the age of 77, deeply saddened his
family and many friends; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 15, 1924, in Alleghany County,
Virginia, this patriot answered his nation's call to arms during
World War II and served again in Korea; he also established a fine
career with the Union Pacific Railroad that spanned 33 years; and
WHEREAS, In service to his community, he participated with
several worthy organizations, including American Legion Garden
Oaks Post 560, and the Provost Guard Unit and Goodwill Ambassador
Staff of the Arabia Shrine; further, he was a 50-year member of Park
Place Lodge 1172 of Knights Templar of Texas, and a 32nd degree
Mason; and
WHEREAS, Those who had the good fortune to share the
friendship of this notable Texan will long miss his presence, and he
will be remembered with great affection and esteem for many years to
come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Calvin Christopher
"Chief" Morris and extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Charline
Morris; to his daughter, Pamela Jones; to his sons and
daughter-in-law, Ronald Morris and Donald Morris and his wife,
Therese; to his grandchildren, Allison Buchtin and Adam,
Christopher, and Cody Morris; to his step-grandson, Brad Meador;
and to all those who mourn the passing of this beloved man; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Calvin
Christopher Morris.
