R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Pittsburg Middle School band has captured the sweepstakes award in the 2003 University Interscholastic League (UIL) band competition, an impressive feat that is a source of great pride to their school and community; and WHEREAS, This gifted musical ensemble won Division I ratings in both the concert and sight-reading contests with their performance on April 9, an achievement that was matched by only seven other bands in this year's event; and WHEREAS, The success of the Pittsburg Middle School band in statewide competition is attributable to both the expert guidance of band director Randy Whatley and the outstanding efforts of its many talented musicians, all of whom merit special praise and recognition for their exceptional skill, dedication, and drive; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Pittsburg Middle School band on winning the sweepstakes award in the 2003 University Interscholastic League music competition and extend to the members of the band sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Pittsburg Middle School band as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
