R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Houston Chapter of the Texas Mothers Association
has named Connie Riddle as Houston 2003 Mother of the Year, and she
is being honored at a special luncheon on May 12, 2003; and
WHEREAS, A third-grade teacher and special-needs educator in
the Houston Independent School District (HISD) for 21 years, Ms.
Riddle has ably served as a driving force behind the Houston
Literacy Council; since beginning her work with the council, she
has helped more than 100,000 adults and children learn to read while
creating programs that will assist many more; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Riddle retired early from HISD to devote more of
her time to the literacy council; she has served as president and
vice president of the board and associate director of the external
funding department; by working with community partnerships,
including artists, writers, corporate sponsors, and charitable
organizations, Ms. Riddle was able to secure funding for the
operation and expansion of the literacy council; and
WHEREAS, All mothers share a powerful bond in the love they
have for their children, and, through her myriad endeavors, Connie
Riddle has extended her love beyond the boundaries of her own family
and, in doing so, she has enriched the world of many beyond measure,
making herself an apt recipient for the award with which she is
being honored; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Connie Riddle on her selection as
Mother of the Year by the Houston Chapter of the Texas Mothers
Association and extend to her warmest best wishes for future
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Riddle as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
