H.R. No. 1189
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A. R. "Art" Roberts was named 2002 Citizen of the
Year by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, and this prestigious
honor is truly well deserved; and
WHEREAS, An alumnus of the Leadership Richardson Class XI,
Mr. Roberts remains active in Leadership Richardson as its
curriculum chair; in addition, he has donated his time and energy to
such worthy organizations as the Richardson City Plan Commission,
Richardson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Metroplex
Technology Business Council Board of Advisors, Board of Directors
of CASA of Collin County, and MTBC Third Friday Technical Luncheon,
of which he is founding chair; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional community leader graduated from
Texas Tech University in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in
electrical engineering and quickly gained employment with Collins
Radio in Richardson, where he worked for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, He joined MCI in 1972 as a regional manager of
engineering and construction, and within six years he was promoted
to vice president, a position with demanding duties that he ably
performed for 18 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts's many significant contributions to the
Richardson community are an inspiration to all who know him, and it
is indeed appropriate that he receive special legislative
recognition for his recent honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate A. R. "Art" Roberts on being named
Richardson's Citizen of the Year for 2002 and extend to him sincere
best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Roberts as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
