R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Italy school superintendent Mike Clifton has achieved a remarkable feat of athleticism with his run in the 107th Boston Marathon on April 21, 2003; and WHEREAS, Distance running is among the most demanding of sports, and Mr. Clifton demonstrated uncommon physical stamina and mental strength when he ran the 26.2-mile course from Hopkinton to Boston; and WHEREAS, Completing his second marathon in three years, Mr. Clifton scored a qualifying time of three hours and 35 minutes to clinch a spot in this historic race; he trained vigorously six days a week, running up to 50 miles each week, and met the challenge of the Boston Marathon like a true champion; and WHEREAS, Mr. Clifton has achieved excellence in his sport, and he is a source of pride and an inspiration to his family and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate superintendent Mike Clifton for running in the Boston Marathon and extend to him warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Clifton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
