H.R. No. 1204
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Wendy Mohr has been selected as the Weatherford
Independent School District Teacher of the Year, and the city's
chamber of commerce is bestowing on her its prestigious Miss Anna
Hackett Award; and
WHEREAS, A math and algebra teacher at Tison Junior High
School, Ms. Mohr earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State
University and a master's degree from DePaul University in Illinois
in 1981 and 1986, respectively; after working as a mechanical
engineer for 17 years, she returned to school, earning her teaching
certification in 2000, and embarked on a career as an educator; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding professional worked as a
substitute teacher in Weatherford for one year before joining the
Tison staff in 1999; she excels in her position and has quickly won
the respect and admiration of teachers, students, and parents alike
for her practical teaching approach and dedication to her students;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Mohr brings a wealth of life experience to her
classroom, allowing her to explain the abstract theory of
mathematics in the context of real-life applications; her insight
has proven to be a valuable teaching tool and has undoubtedly
inspired many young Texans to pursue the study of this challenging
field; and
WHEREAS, Outside the classroom, Ms. Mohr is not only a member
of the Association of Texas Professional Educators and the Parent
Teacher Student Association, but also an active volunteer in the
community; she attends St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, where she is
an assistant AWANA leader and Sunday school teacher; in addition,
she is a member of the Weatherford ISD district planning committee
and coaches youth league basketball; and
WHEREAS, The Weatherford Chamber of Commerce is honoring Ms.
Mohr during its Teacher of the Year Luncheon on May 14, 2003, and it
is a pleasure to join the chamber in recognizing this outstanding
teacher at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Wendy Mohr on her receipt of the
Miss Anna Hackett Award from the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Mohr as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
