R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pleasure in honoring James F. Armstrong for both his professional and personal contributions to the Abilene community; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Armstong was born in Rising Star on March 6, 1917; he graduated from Cisco High School in 1936 and attended McMurry College before moving to Dallas the following year; and WHEREAS, He was hired as a paying and receiving teller by Hillcrest State Bank, the first bank in the world to provide its customers with a drive-through teller window, and as the inaugural employee assigned to work at the window, he was able to personally experience a turning point in the history of the banking industry; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1942, and over the ensuing three years, he flew more than 60 combat missions over France; for his valor, he was awarded the Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross; and WHEREAS, When he returned from military service, Mr. Armstrong took a position at Citizens National Bank in Abilene, where he earned the respect and admiration of his coworkers for his dedication and conscientious nature; he retired as the bank's senior vice president in 1980, after 33 years of service; and WHEREAS, Mr. Armstrong has given generously of his time and talents to a host of worthy civic organizations, including the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, the Abilene Lions Club, and the Aldersgate United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Through his military service, professional endeavors, and civic involvement, James Armstrong has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving others, and he is most deserving of special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend James F. Armstrong for his many significant contributions to his fellow Texans and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Armstrong as an expression of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives.
