H.R. No. 1210


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The voice of a community has been stilled with the recent death of Rick Watson of Jacksonville at the age of 64; and WHEREAS, Mr. Watson was the consummate professional broadcast journalist, who served as news director for eight radio stations and interviewed the major political figures of his time, including five presidents, during his career; the three-time Texas Sportscaster of the Year, he was best known for his sports broadcasting excellence, having broadcast the gridiron exploits of the Jacksonville Fightin' Indians for an amazing 29 years as well as numerous college sporting events; and WHEREAS, With a strong, rich voice and a supportive and positive attitude, Mr. Watson became an integral part of the Jacksonville community and a familiar, comforting friend on the radio and in the streets of his town; and WHEREAS, A man who lived the dictates of his faith, Mr. Watson placed the welfare of others ahead of his own, his concern for humankind demonstrated by his position as an organizer and board member of the HOPE organization in Jacksonville; and WHEREAS, The strong, smooth voice of Mr. Watson will no longer ride the crisp autumn air on Friday nights, but the memory of his gracious spirit will long endure in the community where he was so deeply admired; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the life of Lewis Richard "Rick" Watson and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his wife, Sheila Ann Watson; to his children, Cyndi Anne Hyde, Lydia Demetria Leighton, and Shanyn Elizabeth Watson; to his sisters, Peggy Vickers and Janet Hogan; to his 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rick Watson.
