R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On June 27-29, 2003, descendants of Lucille Christopher are gathering in Austin for their 30th annual family reunion; and WHEREAS, Lucille Christopher was a slave born in Alabama who later lived in Texas; her son, Dennis, born in 1847, moved to Rusk with his family around the age of four and lived in Cherokee County until his death on February 27, 1933; he is buried in Henry Cemetery in Ponta; and WHEREAS, Descendants of Dennis Christopher include 9 children, 30 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 103 great-great-grandchildren, 57 great-great-great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-great-great-grandchildren; the 2003 meeting marks the first time the gathering has been held at a site other than Elm Grove in Cherokee County; last year it was decided that the family would meet in Elm Grove in even-numbered years, with an alternate location selected for reunions in odd-numbered years; and WHEREAS, The Christopher Family Reunion will afford the relatives of Lucille and Dennis Christopher and their friends the opportunity to reflect on their family's distinctive legacy, pay tribute to those relatives who have passed on, and note the bonds that unite them today; and WHEREAS, Through the years, the contributions made by members of the Christopher family have been interwoven in the compelling story of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting that they be acknowledged at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the Christopher family on the occasion of its 2003 reunion in Austin and extend to all participants warmest wishes for an enjoyable and memorable event.
