R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, San Antonio's Alamo Area Aerospace Academy (AAAA) and Information Technology and Security Academy (ITSA) offer high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit while gaining valuable educational and work experience in the aerospace and information technology and security industries; and WHEREAS, The continued prosperity of San Antonio is directly linked to increasing the attractiveness of the city as a prime location for these high-wage, high-tech industries; and WHEREAS, Both AAAA and ITSA are community partnerships sponsored by the City of San Antonio, the Alamo Community College District, 19 independent school districts in the Bexar County area, three dozen local industry partners, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, The University of Texas at San Antonio's Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS), the U.S. Air Force's Air Intelligence Agency, 433rd Airlift Wing and 12th Flying Training Wing, the Greater Kelly Development Authority, the Alamo Workforce Development Board, and the San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative; and WHEREAS, The U.S. secretary of labor has recognized AAAA as an exemplary workforce development program that should be emulated across the country, and in its first year of operation ITSA is showing similar promise as a national model for innovative industry, academic, and public partnership; and WHEREAS, Gaining experience and expertise in two of San Antonio's driver industries--aerospace and information technology and security--will undoubtedly benefit the young people who attend these academies; and WHEREAS, The future growth of these vital industries in San Antonio and in Texas requires a pipeline of highly skilled workers who are ready to meet the demands of employers in these high-tech fields, and the many individuals who have contributed to this goal are to be commended for their hard work and dedication in this pursuit; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize San Antonio's Alamo Area Aerospace Academy and the Information Technology and Security Academy and extend best wishes for continued success to the many individuals and organizations involved in these unique and praiseworthy programs.
