H.R. No. 1225
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On May 18, 2003, the North Texas District
Association Brotherhood Union is honoring the Reverend C. B. T.
Smith during a service at Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church in
Dallas entitled "1,000 Men in Black"; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Reverend Smith attended Saint
Phillips Junior College, Bishop College, and Southwestern
Theological Seminary; he preached his first sermon on January 6,
1946, at New Light Baptist Church in San Antonio, and he has won the
respect and admiration of congregants and colleagues alike for his
wisdom, unwavering faith, and dynamic leadership; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman ministered to the
members of Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church for some 45 years,
before retiring in 1997; he has also held leadership positions in
religious organizations at the local, state, and national levels,
including the North Texas District Association, the Missionary
Baptist General Convention of Texas, the National Baptist Congress
of Christian Workers, the National Baptist Convention of America,
Inc., and the National Council of Churches; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Smith is being recognized by the North
Texas District Association Brotherhood Union as a "life-long
Christian living legend," and he is most deserving of this special
designation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend C. B. T. Smith on his myriad
contributions to his community and extend to him sincere best
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Reverend Smith as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
