R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Westlake High School girls' basketball team truly distinguished itself during the 2002-2003 season by advancing to the semifinal game of the UIL Class 5A state tournament; and WHEREAS, After storming through district competition with a perfect 14-0 record, Westlake entered postseason play with tremendous momentum, and the team's run to the state tournament included victories over Victoria Memorial High and San Antonio Taft High, schools that had previously thwarted the Chaps in Region IV playoff competition; and WHEREAS, Although their season ended with a loss in the semifinal round of the state tournament, this remarkable Westlake team earned the respect of fans and foes alike, and the squad's 32-6 record is indicative of each athlete's commitment to excellence on the court; and WHEREAS, The Chaps' exceptional success during the 2002-2003 season was a result of total dedication to the team concept by players Jennifer Hamilton, Caroline Wren, Lauren Jones, Haley Holcomb, Natalie Brewster, Blair Massey, Katie Gross, Lauren Balon, and Meredith McKinnon and by their coach, Laura Zouzalik, who began coaching the Westlake team in 2001; and WHEREAS, These exemplary student-athletes, with their coaches and staff, are indeed deserving of special legislative recognition for their basketball achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Westlake High School girls' basketball team on their exceptional season, including a berth in the UIL Class 5A state tournament, and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
