H.R. No. 1235
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Albert Wadel Moursund III of Round
Mountain on April 22, 2002, at the age of 82, has brought a
tremendous sense of loss to the family and many friends of this
esteemed gentleman; and
WHEREAS, Called "A Texan's Texan" by Time magazine in 1964,
Mr. Moursund was a nationally known attorney who was elected to two
terms in the Texas House of Representatives, serving from 1948 to
1952, and he also served for six years as the County Judge of Blanco
County; a lifelong friend and advisor to President and Mrs. Lyndon
B. Johnson, he was granted irrevocable power of attorney in 1963 by
President Johnson; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Moursund was born in Johnson
City on May 23, 1919; after graduating from Austin High School in
1936 and earning his law degree from The University of Texas in
1941, he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War
II and eventually opened a private law practice in his hometown of
Johnson City; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan joined Pedernales Electric
Cooperative, Inc., as its general counsel in 1950, and he continued
in that capacity until his passing; one of the original appointees
to the board of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, he was also
appointed as general counsel to Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock in
1996; additionally, he owned a number of businesses over the course
of his life, including banks, insurance agencies, abstract
companies, and ranches in several states; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moursund was an outstanding lawyer, rancher,
banker, and statesman, and while he is greatly missed, his memory
lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he
touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Albert Wadel Moursund
III and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife of 60 years, Mary Allen Moore Moursund; to his son, Will
Stribling Moursund; to his daughter, Mary Moore Moursund; to his
daughter-in-law, Ingrid Weltge Moursund; to his granddaughter,
Autumn Marie Moursund; to his grandson, Albert Wadel Moursund IV;
and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Albert
Wadel Moursund III.
