R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Pete and Opal Matthews of Midland celebrated the 
joyous occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary on March 6, 2003, 
at Ranchland Hills Country Club in the company of their loved ones; 
and
	WHEREAS, Over the course of their enduring union, Mr. and 
Mrs. Matthews have been blessed with four sons, Gene, Alan, Ray, and 
Jim, as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; 
and
	WHEREAS, The couple moved to Midland in 1978 after living in 
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for more than two decades; Mr. Matthews is 
retired from a career with Conoco that spanned 38 years, while Mrs. 
Matthews has been a dedicated homemaker throughout their marriage; 
and
	WHEREAS, For six decades, Mr. and Mrs. Matthews have nurtured 
a strong bond of love and have filled each other's lives with many 
happy times and cherished family memories, and it is a privilege to 
honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate Pete and Opal Matthews on the 
notable occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary and extend to 
them warmest best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Matthews as an expression of high regard 
by the Texas House of Representatives.
