R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A golden wedding anniversary is truly cause for a joyous celebration, and on October 1, 2003, James and Mimi Blackmon of Horseshoe Bay are marking this memorable occasion in their marriage; and WHEREAS, Mr. Blackmon and the former Mimi McLarty pledged their wedding vows in a ceremony held on October 1, 1953, in Wichita, Kansas; over the course of their enduring relationship, the couple have demonstrated a deep love, trust, and admiration for each other, and they remain a source of inspiration to all those who know them; and WHEREAS, Blessed with two children, Stephanie Lynn Blackmon Rogers and Stephen Lee Blackmon, Mr. and Mrs. Blackmon delight in spending time with their close-knit family, which includes their grandchildren, Ross and Tyler Blackmon and Scott, Todd, and Jennifer Jill "J. J." Rogers; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Blackmon has been a dedicated homemaker throughout her marriage; Mr. Blackmon was a member of the armed forces who served his country with distinction during the Korean War; he was employed with the San Diego Corporation and the Murphy Oil Company, served as financial vice president of the Roden Oil Company, and retired from that company in 1975 to become an independent oilman; and WHEREAS, After living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Midland, the Blackmons moved to Horseshoe Bay in 1990; they continue to enjoy a mutual interest in bridge, golf, and visiting at the lake with family and friends; and WHEREAS, Together this devoted couple have shared the trials and triumphs of half a century, and it is truly a pleasure to join in honoring them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate James and Mimi Blackmon on the happy occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Blackmon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
