R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Reporter Ed Todd has retired from the Midland
Reporter-Telegram, having informed and entertained readers of that
paper with his insightful and intelligent writing for nearly three
decades; and
WHEREAS, Reared in East Delta, a tiny community in northeast
Texas, Mr. Todd began his career in journalism as a police reporter
with the Galveston Tribune before joining the staff of the Midland
Reporter-Telegram on December 23, 1974; his small-town upbringing
was reflected in his popular and long-running column, "Roustin'
About," which profiled individuals and events in communities
throughout the Permian Basin in a manner that fully engaged his
readers and always kept them coming back for more; and
WHEREAS, Able to recount human interest items with the skill
of a great storyteller, Mr. Todd also charted the economic and
social changes that have swept through the Midland area since the
mid-1970s, and his talents as a writer, interviewer, and researcher
have earned him a host of faithful readers and more than a few
friends along the way; and
WHEREAS, Although he has officially retired from the
Reporter-Telegram, Mr. Todd still intends to submit occasional
stories to the paper on topics of his own choosing which, he himself
would concede, has probably always been the case; this
multitalented individual is a free spirit whose diverse passions
include cycling and diagramming sentences, and those who have come
to treasure his writing are counting on his continual need for a
creative outlet in the years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Ed Todd of Midland on the occasion
of his formal retirement from the Midland Reporter-Telegram and
extend to him warmest best wishes for continued happiness and
success in his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Todd as an expression of high esteem by the Texas
House of Representatives.
