R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, June 8, 2003, marks the centennial celebration of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Carrollton, and this auspicious event indeed merits special legislative recognition; and WHEREAS, Festivities planned for this noteworthy event include a worship service followed by lunch and fellowship and a program of remembrances that highlights special times in the history of the church; and WHEREAS, Under the inspiring leadership of the Reverend Harold Elias-Perciful, who is assisted by administrative assistant Dorothea Brock, director of music Laura Benton, and parish nurse Barbara Amond, the congregants of First Christian Church continue to carry out a century-old tradition of service in behalf of their fellow North Texas citizens; and WHEREAS, The church hosts a full schedule of worship, Sunday school, Bible study, and classes for all ages; further activities held at the 1835 Walnut Street site include adult and children's choirs, scout meetings, exercise classes, softball games, and special events of benefit to members of the congregation and the wider community; and WHEREAS, Over the course of 100 years, First Christian Church has remained a sanctuary of strength, comfort, and spiritual encouragement, and it is a distinct pleasure to join in celebrating its first century of faithful service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the pastor and congregation of First Christian Church on the momentous occasion of its centennial and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for First Christian Church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
