H.R. No. 1297
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The state Communities in Schools program has
bestowed a special honor on Betty Murphy of Provident Heights
Elementary School in the Waco Independent School District by naming
her principal of the year; and
WHEREAS, An educator for 25 years, Ms. Murphy was chosen from
among 700 candidates; her hard work and dedication to community
involvement have demonstrated a heartfelt concern for the
children's welfare inside and outside the classroom; and
WHEREAS, During her four years with Provident Heights
Elementary, Ms. Murphy has made numerous important contributions to
the school; she has worked to improve the quality of after-school
programs and has established many community outreach programs,
including language classes and technology training; notably, under
her able leadership, Provident Heights Elementary has been rated
"exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding principal has made a positive,
lasting impression on the lives of countless young Texans, and she
is most deserving of special legislative recognition at this time;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Betty Murphy on her selection as
principal of the year by the Communities in Schools program and
extend to her warmest best wishes for future success and happiness;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Murphy as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
