R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Area residents can take great pride in Blue Ridge High School students' many notable accomplishments during the 2002-2003 school year; and WHEREAS, These young scholars and athletes have reached impressive levels of achievement in wide-ranging fields of endeavor, including academics, sports, the arts, science, agriculture, and journalism; and WHEREAS, The science team placed first in problem solving at the Winston Science Fair in Dallas while three students advanced to the Regional UIL Academic Meet in computer applications and newspaper writing; actors and crew involved with the one-act play were rewarded with all-star cast, technical, and best actor prizes, before going on to earn additional all-star cast and technical awards at region; and WHEREAS, Blue Ridge is home to numerous top-ranked athletes, including the District 2A champion boys' basketball team, which advanced to the regional quarterfinals, and the boys' baseball team, winner of the 13AA district and bi-district titles; the football team competed in the Class 2A Division II playoff game, and the cross-country squad earned a berth at region, as did a senior member of the power-lifting team; and WHEREAS, At the district tennis meet, the girls earned a second place in doubles and went to the regional tournament; the girls' golf team won second place in the team division competition at district, thus qualifying for regional, while a member of the boys' golf team advanced as a medalist to regional; and WHEREAS, Today's seniors make up the largest graduating class in the history of the high school, and nearly 40 percent of the Class of 2003 plans to attend college in the fall, with approximately the same percentage currently enrolled in college courses; and WHEREAS, The outstanding young Texans of Blue Ridge High School have set a high standard of achievement for themselves and those who follow in their footsteps, and it is a privilege to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend the students, faculty, and staff of Blue Ridge High School for their commitment to excellence and extend to them warmest best wishes for success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Blue Ridge High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
