R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, John Dickson is a compassionate and honorable man who is committed to teaching others to care for the less fortunate and to respect the environment; and WHEREAS, He was born in El Paso, grew up in Lavernia, and graduated from Lavernia High School; he continued his education at The University of Texas at San Antonio, eventually transferring to The University of Texas at Arlington, where he is majoring in history; Mr. Dickson is now a resident of Fort Worth; and WHEREAS, Growing up in a large family with grandparents who are veterans of World War II and the Korean War and parents who have more than 60 years of combined experience in the education system, Mr. Dickson developed a deep consciousness of and understanding for people around the world who suffer from acts against humanity; and WHEREAS, While observing the effects of global culture and its impact on the diversity of the planet, he cofounded Students for Just Peace and traveled to such areas as Washington, D.C., Denver, Colorado, and Austin, Dallas, Arlington, and San Antonio to help fight for the end of poverty and racism; and WHEREAS, A man who cares deeply for this country and hopes that one day it will reach its greatest potential through nurturing ideas and diverse values, Mr. Dickson sets an example for others as both a student and a community leader, and it is a pleasure to honor him at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize John Dickson as a valuable citizen who has gone to great lengths to ensure that the State of Texas and this country hold steadfast to their true goals to obtain strength through diversity in people of different religions and nationalities; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Dickson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
