R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Michelle Carter of Red Oak High School has etched her name into the Texas high school and national high school record books, setting records in the Class 4A discus and shot put at the 2003 UIL state track and field meet; and WHEREAS, An eight-time high school state champion, Miss Carter broke her own national outdoor record in the shot put and bettered her 2002 state-meet record in the discus by eight inches, despite throwing into a strong headwind; and WHEREAS, This remarkable student athlete has captured the state titles in discus and shot put in each of her four years in high school; her impressive achievement marks just the fourth time that a high school girl has won two events in each year of state competition; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Olympic silver medalist and former Texas high school track and field star Michael Carter, Michelle has a bright and promising future ahead of her, and it is a pleasure to honor her for her athletic success; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to Michelle Carter for excellence in track and field and extend to her best wishes for continued success in her academic and athletic pursuits; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Miss Carter as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
