H.R. No. 1347


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In the year 2003, Corpus Christi resident William D. Bonilla, Sr., marks 50 years of outstanding service in the practice of law; and WHEREAS, A native of Calvert, he received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law; licensed to practice in federal court for the Southern District of Texas and before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, he founded Bonilla Law Firm and today is the senior member of the law offices of William D. Bonilla, P.C.; and WHEREAS, His commitment to his colleagues includes service as a board member and fellow of the College of the State Bar of Texas; he chaired the commission on the selection, compensation, and tenure of Texas judges and served on the committee of 100 to study the selection of the state's judges; and WHEREAS, He has been national president, national legal advisor, and a member of the national board of directors of the League of United Latin-American Citizens (LULAC) and has held various offices statewide and locally; he served a presidential appointment to the National Advisory Council of the Office of Economic Opportunity, was an EEOC consultant, and represented the United States government in South America; and WHEREAS, Sharing his time and resources in behalf of this community, Mr. Bonilla has chaired the Corpus Christi Housing Authority board and has served on the Art Museum of South Texas board; this inspiring gentleman has been a longtime supporter of the SER Jobs for Progress initiative, is a developer of the Bonilla Plaza, a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and a congregant of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and St. Jude Shrine; and WHEREAS, William Bonilla is truly an outstanding attorney and community leader who is most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend William D. Bonilla, Sr., for his distinguished career in the law and extend to him best wishes for future success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Bonilla as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
