R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Leland and Frankie Lee Lawson of Houston are
commemorating a special event in their life together when they
celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary on May 29, 2003; and
WHEREAS, United in matrimony on May 29, 1935, in their
pastor's home, Mr. and Mrs. Lawson have been blessed over the years
with two daughters, six grandchildren, and seven
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lawson worked for Layne Texas Company overseeing
many of the water wells drilled in the Houston area, as well as the
drilling of piers for the city's freeway system and downtown
skyscrapers; Mrs. Lawson, who often cooked for the crew on her
husband's jobs, brought in extra income by sewing and crocheting;
and
WHEREAS, Longtime residents of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Lawson
are valued members of the community and devoted congregants at
Gethsemane Lutheran Church, and Mrs. Lawson continues her quilting;
for nearly 50 years, the couple were active in the Square & Round
Dance community as dancers and instructors; they stay busy
gardening and canning, supplying family members with fresh produce,
grape jelly, and dill pickles; and
WHEREAS, For 68 years, this devoted couple have built an
enduring union, filling each other's lives with many happy times
and cherished family memories, and they are truly an inspiration to
their family and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Leland and Frankie Lee Lawson on
the joyous occasion of their 68th wedding anniversary and extend to
them warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Lawson as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
