R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Since 1979, the Greater Houston Preservation
Alliance has recognized local contributors to the preservation,
restoration, and enhancement of Houston's architectural heritage
through the presentation of its Good Brick Award, and it is a
pleasure to join in honoring one of this year's deserving
recipients; and
WHEREAS, A prime example of typical office building design in
Houston during the 1960s, the structure located at 3843 N.
Braeswood Boulevard is a Bauhaus-inspired glass box floating on a
base of stone walls and steel pipe columns; though its style is not
generally considered historic, the building reflects an important
part of the city's history and truly merits preservation; and
WHEREAS, Kerry Gingrich of Gingrich Associates Architects
realized the importance of this building and worked diligently to
restore it by carefully stripping away the inappropriate additions
that had been made over the years and by using only materials that
were characteristic of Houston during the time period to complete
the project; and
WHEREAS, A true architectural treasure, this structure is yet
again a valued part of the Houston landscape and is certain to be
admired for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Kerry Gingrich and Gingrich
Associates Architects on their receipt of a Greater Houston
Preservation Alliance 2003 Good Brick Award and commend them for
their work in preserving the unique architectural heritage of their
city; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for them as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
of Representatives.
