R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Since 1979, the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance has recognized local contributors to the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of Houston's architectural heritage through the presentation of its Good Brick Award, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring one of this year's deserving recipients; and WHEREAS, Originally housing Madding Drug Store, the building, on the corner of Westheimer and Mandell since 1926, is most commonly known as the home of Imperial Plumbing Supply, which served the public from that location for nearly 50 years; it was designed by well-known Houston architect Joseph Finger; and WHEREAS, In a cooperative effort between Kaldis Development Interests, Hugo's Restaurant, and Colby Design, the building was painstakingly renovated, stripping away years of "modernization" to reveal the building's original brickwork, beautiful tin ceiling, and distinct storefront; and WHEREAS, A true architectural treasure, this structure is yet again a valued part of the Houston landscape, and its history and charm are certain to be admired for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Kaldis Development Interests, Hugo's Restaurant, and Colby Design on their receipt of a Greater Houston Preservation Alliance 2003 Good Brick Award and commend them for their work in preserving the unique architectural heritage of their city; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for them as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
