H.R. No. 1359


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, May 28, 2003, marks the conclusion of a distinguished tenure for Esther Polland as president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston; and WHEREAS, Over the course of her two years in office, this esteemed woman has demonstrated tremendous dedication to her position and to the ideals of the organization; she has been an exemplary leader, and her efforts have helped to raise in excess of $20 million for charitable activities in the U.S. and beyond and have won her the lasting respect and admiration of all who have been privileged to work with her; and WHEREAS, Ms. Polland has a long history of leadership in the organization, including terms as its vice president, general campaign chair, and women's division campaign chair; and WHEREAS, She has also served on both the executive committee and the board of directors of the National Women's Constituency for United Jewish Communities; and WHEREAS, Now the president-elect of the University of Texas Hillel in Austin, Ms. Polland has committed herself to preserving and enriching Jewish life both at home and abroad, and it is a distinct pleasure to honor her for a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Esther Polland on her outstanding tenure as president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Polland as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
