H.R. No. 1372
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On May 28, 2003, the Houston East End Lions Club is
celebrating its 75th anniversary, and the occasion provides a
fitting opportunity to recognize this noteworthy civic
association; and
WHEREAS, The first suburban Lions Club in Texas, the Houston
East End Lions Club was organized by W. H. Teagarden and led by
president W. J. Stoner; the club boasted 40 members when its charter
was issued on May 10, 1928; and
WHEREAS, Today the Houston East End Lions Club is under the
leadership of president Augustine Marcellus; the organization is
part of the International Association of Lions Clubs, which
includes members in approximately 44,600 clubs located in more than
190 countries; and
WHEREAS, Truly exemplifying the motto "We Serve," the Houston
East End Lions Club supports the community through many significant
endeavors, such as providing eye care for needy children, funding
programs for handicapped and diabetic children, and awarding
college scholarships; and
WHEREAS, For 75 years the Houston East End Lions Club has
greatly benefited its community, and it is indeed appropriate to
pay tribute to this exemplary organization at this time; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Houston East End Lions Club on
the 75th anniversary of its founding and extend sincere best wishes
for continued success and happiness to all those associated with
the club; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Houston East End Lions Club as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
